"SPUTNIK 1" Inspired Lamps
Sputnik 1 was the first artificial satellite launched into space on Oct. 4th 1957. This event started the space race between Russia and the USA. Which led to Russia putting the first man in space, Yuri Gagarin on April 12 1961. The recent celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Sputnik 1 launch has created a revived interest in early space exploration. Inspired by the shape and design of these early hand made satellites, I have made a unique collection of table lamps and floor lamps. The lamps range from 25cm dia.-- 48cm.dia. In keeping with the period I have used vintage camera lenses together with other found objects and instrument parts from that period.

The 'Isayev' table lamp is named after one of the chief scientists who worked on the Sputnik Satellite in the 1950s. This lamp is made from a stainless steel sphere , vintage camera parts and filters. The base and stem are made of aluminium. Sphere dia. 250mm. Overall height 760mm. . Price $1,800.

The Reshetnev table lamp also named after one of the leading scientists working on the Russian space project in the 1950s. This lamp has a polished stainless steel ball of 300 mm. in diameter. The lamp is mounted on a polished aluminium base and is also made using vintage camera and projector lenses and filters. H. 810 mm. Price $1,850.

The Chelomei table lamp is made with a 250 mm. diameter polished stainless steel ball. Mounted on an aluminium base this lamp has five vintage lenses and two light filters mounted on the front side. H 760. mm. Price. $1,800.

The Sputnik 1 floor lamp is made from a stainless steel sphere 440 mm. in diameter . The light is also made from vintage camera lenses and colour filters. H. 1,950.mm. The base is made from polished aluminium. Price $2,900.

The Sputnik 2 floor lamp is made from a polished stainless steel sphere 380 mm. in dia. also with vintage camera lenses and filters. Overall height 1.8m. Price $3,250.
SPUTNIK 2 FLOOR LAMP
The Luna 1 module was the first spacecraft to reach the vicinity of the moon in 1959, also known as the 'First Cosmic Ship' This floor lamp named after this Russian spacecraft is made from a perspex sphere 540 mm. in diameter. The top half is covered in vintage camera lenses and filters. The light is mounted on an adjustable tripod stand in the style of the legs from a moon landing craft. Overall height adjusts from 1.45m.-1.8m. Price $2,400.
